America Speaking Out iPhone App

Talcott Systems recently completed work on the first version of the America Speaking Out iPhone App, a project of the U.S. House Republican leadership. Medication Therapy Management System

As consultants to one of the most well-known software development studios in the Ruby community, we accelerated development of a large system which helps insurance companies manage and prevent problems with their patients’ medications. We worked with a distributed team over ten people on three continents, exclusively utilizing pair-programming and advanced agile methods. In addition to the full, up-to-date Rails stack, this project utilized MongoDB for the primary document storage.

We performed initial performance optimization of an existing Ruby on Rails-based online business, speeding many pages and various site operations by a factor of 5 initially. We continue to provide ongoing development, support and maintenance for this online music retailer.

Information Engineering Workbench

We applied the principles of Information Engineering to create an online workbench where our client could consolidate metadata about a multitude of database systems, all containing information of a similar nature but with different structure (schemas) and terminology (field names). The goal of this project is eventually to make it possible to integrate almost 50 different database systems belonging to different, related organizations and allow them to share records seamlessly.

Vendor Management Interface

We built this system for a major spirits wholesaler to allow their state distributors to securely input pricing and promotions for electronic submission to a top retail chain. It was critical to provide a branded interface to the client’s distributors, as well as make complex EDI functionality simple and easy to use. We took this project over after it was already a year behind schedule, engaged in a complete re-write from the ground up and delivered in two months.

This project utilized: Adobe Flex, Ruby on Rails, Role Based Authorization

It resulted in release of the Limber plugin — an open source framework created by Mr. Smith for developing Flex applications based on Rails. Visit Limber on github

EC2 Cloud Scalability Testing

On this project we assisted United Business Media with development, deployment and testing of a multi-user virtual environment based on Adobe Flex and Ruby on Rails for the provision of online trade show events. We migrated the application to EC2 and facilitated cloud-based testing for accurate simulation of high numbers of concurrent users interacting in real time.
